BOOKS WE READ

2014

My goal is to read 71 88 library books this summer.

Since I learned to read last summer and have gotten better at it over this past year, I read books with an adult. I read the words I know and the adult reads the words I do not. I am still summarizing the books and dictating my ideas. This year I am including my book review here. I will tell you my favorite part of the book and why I would or would not recommend the book to other kids. This summer I am reading books from the 1st Grade Reading List my teacher gave me and other books I choose from the library. These books are mostly fiction, some are non-fiction and we only read parts of those to do research.

*UPDATE: As of August 8, 2014 I am including the name of the illustrator of the book if it is different than the writer. I am also including the characters (if I remember their names I will include them). Finally, I will begin awarding my own "star" review or in this case Book Worm on a scale of one to five (1-5) Book Worms; five (5) being the best, one (1) being the worse. All of this is building on my continued effort to become a better reader. I hope you like it.

If you would like to find out more about a library in your area go to www.publiclibraries.com. You may want to see if your library has any special events through the year. For instance, this summer the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh teamed up with the Pittsburgh Pirates to offer children a chance to win tickets to a Pirates baseball game. The program is called Pirates Tales and all I have to do is read books and fill out a quick form about it. Since I am still learing to read and write, my dad helps me. I didn't win last year, but maybe I will this year!

Books are in descending order.

2013

I read 76 library books from May - August 2014.
Since I am a kid, I am a beginning reader. I have an adult read the books to me and I work with them to summarize what was read by dictating my ideas. The books below are a collection of children's literature that go along with the theme of this blog, creating a vegetable and fruit garden. These books are mostly fiction, some are non-fiction and we only read parts of those to do research. I also check out books from the library that are not related to my garden and read books of my own. Finally, I read books from my school district's summer reading list to prepare for next school year.

I hope I win!

Books are in descending order.
(most recently read books first)
This was on our summer reading list and we requested it in May from the library.
We finally got to check it out and read it last night (08.16.13).
